Max Verstappen topped off a super Saturday by claiming pole position at the US GP, ahead of Lando Norris and Charles Leclerc.

A dramatic Q3 session saw Max take pole, despite not reaching the flag in time for a second run; however, his time of 1:32.510 was enough to secure top spot by nearly three tenths.

It came after the four-time World Champion won a chaotic Sprint race earlier in the day, in which both McLarens DNF'd.

Back to qualifying, though, and it was Norris who followed the Dutch driver, while Ferrari's Charles Leclerc somewhat surprisingly rounded out the top three.

Oscar Piastri capped a miserable Saturday by finishing P6 and will start alongside Lewis Hamilton on the third row of the grid.

Earlier in qualifying, Isack Hadjar crashed out of Q1, while Lance Stroll and Alex Albon joined the Frenchman in being eliminated from Q1 after both had their lap times deleted.

Speaking afterwards, Max said: "It was good. I think in every segment, the car was strong - trying to put the lap together around here sometimes can be quite tricky. Also, it's very hot, and a very strong wind as well in that first sector. Having a tailwind is challenging, let's say.

"The first run in Q3 was good; just managed to improve a little bit from Q2. Unfortunately, I couldn’t do my final run - it was a bit messy with the out laps. Luckily, we didn't need it. But again, for us, a very strong result.
